Social Media is no joke, it’s been around for a few years now and everyone’s buzzing around on their mobile phones freaking out because there’s a new app. Since the beginning of the social media madness marketers have been trying to figure out how to work the ever important business card into the mix. “Do we use QR codes? Do we put a twitter bird on it? What about the ‘f’ logo? Is it going to change someday and then I’ll have to throw away the other 999 business cards?”. These are all questions that have been asked at some point or another in the last few years. The short of the long is No. You don’t have to put a QR, or a twitter bird or LinkedIn URL to increase the social media awareneness of your business card. “So how do I make this social media craziness work with my business card?” You ask..
The Long of the Short..
The fact of the matter is that social media is all about engaging, interaction and content sharing. People want to see and be seen, so if you want to get your business card all up in the mix try taking a photograph of it. Yes I’m serious. Take a cool picture, with a funky angle and try a macro setting. “What am I going to do with a photo of my business card?” You ask.. Well there are number of things, sharing on Facebook is one of them, sharing on Twitter is another, and now Pinterest, but the REAL tip here is to find galleries to publish to and link those galleries up to Facebook and Twitter feeds to brag to all your friends once you get published. We’ve linked up a couple galleries below so be sure to check them out.
There are websites devoted entirely to showcasing amazing business cards, communities of designers looking for business card design inspiration and people looking for design ideas for their own cards. With all of those people looking for business cards, there is a serious potential for you and your business card to be seen. We’ll list a few awesome business card galleries later in this post.
But my business card isn’t that cool..
Thats Ok! You can order some cool cards later, but for now you can use these websites to find unique business card design ideas and printing techniques. Pinterest is blowing up with tons of design ideas, and we’ve stashed away some of our favorites here.
The bottom line here is that people dig photos and getting listed in galleries will show off your brand in a very classy way to the masses, and at the same time your bringing your brand to the forefront of your social network in a fun and edgy way not a spammy marketing kind of way.
